Google Earth and burakumin

I don’t know what I should think about this: Burakumin groups angry at Google Earth.

For you who don’t know about the burakumin problem, here is a quick quote from Wikipedia:

Burakumin (部落民 ,tribe people?), are a Japanese social minority group. The burakumin are one of the main minority groups in Japan, along with the Ainu of Hokkaidō, the Ryukyuans of Okinawa and the residents of Korean and Chinese descent.

The burakumin are descendants of outcast communities of the feudal era, which mainly comprised those with occupations considered “tainted” with death or ritual impurity (such as executioners, undertakers or leather workers), and traditionally lived in their own secluded hamlets and ghettos.

They were legally liberated in 1871 with the abolition of the feudal caste system; however, this did not put a stop to social discrimination and their lower living standards because Japanese family registration (Koseki) was fixed to ancestral home address until recently. In certain areas of Japan, there is still a stigma attached to being a resident of such areas, including some lingering discrimination in matters such as marriage and employment.

The long history of taboos and myths of the buraku left a continuous legacy of social desolation. Since the 1980s, more and more young buraku started to organize and protest against their social misfortunes. Movements with objectives ranging from “liberation” to encouraging integration have tried over the years to put a stop to this problem.

In my opinion cencorship is one of the worst things a company or government can do, but then again I can understand why some (a lot of?) Japanese people get upset and want those maps not to be published, too. But, I mean, there are already laws in Japan that forbid racial (and eta/burakumin) discrimination, so it should not be that big of a deal, should it? And, to be perfectly clear, the data is already out there since the beginning. So, why revolt now?

Oh humandkind, what’s going awry here?

Dracula

I just found this while aimlessly surfing the world wide web.

Experience Bram Stoker’s Dracula in a new way — in real time. Dracula is an epistolary novel (a novel written as a series of letters or diary entries,) and this blog will publish each diary entry on the day that it was written by the narrator so that the audience may experience the drama as the characters would have. Please subscribe to the RSS feed so that you don’t miss any installments!

Dracula Begins

Pretty neat, if you ask me.

Everybody be cool. You, be cool!

There is no fu**ing reason to go bollocks!

I mean this: No swine flu in Japan yet, but universities have already reacted with panic

And I quote (from the comment by Annairo 2009-04-29 12:55:17):

I am from Mexico and my friends, japanese exchange students from 京都外国語大学, have received notice from their university to return to Japan.

Seriously, wtf?! If I were a student of one of those universities, I would give them the finger! I mean, come on, not that many Japanese students go abroad and those few who go trough all the trouble must come home now just because somebody in Mexico had to sneeze. Gimme a fu**ing break.

Or this one (from the actual post):

Student travel is forbidden, and students are told to avoid going out - especially to crowded places. The e-mail states that if one single human infection is confirmed in Japan, the whole school will be shut down.

Just so you know, all those Germans suspected to have the flu (and those 2 or 3 who really had it) are all back and healthy, walkin’ around without masks and stuff. A few days ago they said in the news it’s only a few days before they will find the basic DNA information to produce an anti virus.. But right after the news they aired a “documentary” from 2003 (or 2004) about the bird flu (or was it SARS? can’t remember) in China and how bad that turned out to be. Crazy shitheads producing unnecessary panic with stupid shit like that.

And this one equally stupid (and actually very dangerous and racist!):

As hospitals step up their precautions against swine flu, those in the Tokyo area are starting to refuse examinations to those suffering from fever and other potential influenza symptoms, or even those with a foreign friend, it’s been learned.

emphasized by me (via, via)

Damn, how can anybody be soooo fucking RETARDED!?!?!? Refusal to examine sick people will most definitly NOT help the issue! If they really are infected they will just run around and infect other people if you turn them down AT THE DOOR OF A FUCKING HOSPITAL!!! Are you fucking crazy?!

And for crying out loud! WHAT THE FUCK has it to do with having a foreign friend or spouse?! I don’t FUCKING believe it! I really hope for humankind that this is only one single incident, one single hospital, one single doctor that is soooo fucking retarded and simple minded!

This really makes my blood boil!

Sorry for my wild rage about this, but yet again I see very unreasonable racism in Japan. This will sound very harsh and stupid, but right now I really really wish one country, ANY FUCKING country for that matter, would have invaded Japan at least ONCE in history. Then a lot of Japanese people wouldn’t be so simple minded and rascist. But that’s just my blood boiled opinion right now.

Schweinegrippe, Komasaufen, Weltuntergang: People make such a fuss about the swine flu, but in Africa are hundreds or thousands of people dying every day because of cholera and nobody freaks out. Talk about perspective…

Damn, I need to sleep.
